Jesus as 'God' in the Church Fathers

Ignatius of Antioch (c 110 AD)

Jesus Christ our God

being united and elected through the true passion by the will of the Father, and Jesus Christ, our God . . . (Ephesians, Introduction)

The blood of God

Being the followers of God, and stirring up yourselves by the blood of God, ye have perfectly accomplished the work which was beseeming to you. (Ephesians 1.1)

God existing in flesh

There is one Physician who is possessed both of flesh and spirit; both made and not made; God existing in flesh; true life in death; both of Mary and of God; first possible and then impossible, even Jesus Christ our Lord. (Ephesians 7.2)

God in us

Let us therefore do all things as those who have Him dwelling in us, that we may be His temples, and He may be in us as our God, which indeed He is, and will manifest Himself before our faces.  (Ephesians 15.3)

Knowing Jesus as God

And why are we not all prudent, since we have received the knowledge of God, which is Jesus Christ? (Ephesians, 17.2)

Conceived as God

For our God, Jesus Christ, was, according to the appointment of God, conceived in the womb by Mary, of the seed of David, but by the Holy Ghost.

Jesus, the God who gives wisdom

Continue in the unity of Jesus Christ our God
