He is the Shepherd who tends his flock
YAHWEH:
‘“I myself will tend my sheep and make them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD.”’ (Ezek. 34.15)
JESUS:

The sheep are his and he calls them by name
YAHWEH:

JESUS:

He separates the sheep from the goats
YAHWEH:

JESUS:

He searches for the strays

He carries the vulnerable

He brings them to safety

He gathers them as one flock
YAHWEH:

JESUS:

He satisfies the hungry
YAHWEH:

For the Lamb at the centre of the throne

He is the bridegroom
YAHWEH:

He is our light
JESUS:
Jesus answered, ‘How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them.’

YAHWEH:
‘. . . the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.’ (Isa. 60.19)
He shines upon us
JESUS:
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’ (John 8.12)
YAHWEH:
Arise, Jerusalem,
rise clothed in light; your light has come
and the glory of the LORD shines over you. (Isa. 60.1 NEB)
JESUS:
‘Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,

He alone knows the human heart
YAHWEH:
‘Forgive and act; deal with everyone according to all they do, since you know their hearts (for you alone know every human heart) . . . ’ (1 Kings 8.39)

He searches hearts and minds
YAHWEH:
‘I the LORD search the heart
and examine the mind,

He rebukes and disciplines those he loves
YAHWEH:
My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline
and do not resent his rebuke,
because the LORD disciplines those he loves,
as a father the son he delights in. (Prov. 3.11-
JESUS:
‘These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation . . . Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.’ (Rev. 3.14,19)
He is our hope
YAHWEH:
For you have been my hope, Sovereign LORD,
my confidence since my youth. (Ps. 71.5)
JESUS:

He is our peace
YAHWEH:

His love is in us

GOD THE FATHER:

His peace is in us

His life is in us
JESUS:
‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.’ (John 14.27)
GOD THE FATHER:
They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. (Eph. 4.18)

His truth is in us
GOD THE FATHER:

His word brings life
YAHWEH:

for by them you have preserved my life.

JESUS:

His Spirit is in us
GOD THE FATHER:

His grace is upon us
JESUS:
Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. His power is with us
