YAHWEH:
God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites. “I AM has sent me to you.” ’ (Exod. 3.14)

Before the mountains were born . . . from age to age you are (Ps. 90.2 Septuagint)

JESUS:
‘Very truly I tell you,’ Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am!’ (John 8.58)

I am He who Speaks

YAHWEH:
Therefore My people shall know . . . That I am He who speaks. (Isa. 52.6 NKJV)

JESUS:
Jesus said to her, ‘I am he, the one who is speaking to you.’ (John 4.26 NRSV)

You will know that I am He

YAHWEH:
. . . so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. (Isa. 43.10)

JESUS:
When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am he . . . (John 8.28 RSV)

I am the LORD who heals you

YAHWEH:
‘I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.’ (Exod. 15.26)  

JESUS:
‘Aeneas,’ Peter said to him, ‘Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and roll up your mat.’ (Acts 9.34)   

YAHWEH:
When this happens, you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD. (Ezek. 24.24)

JESUS:
I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am. (John 13.19)

Do not be afraid, for I am with you

YAHWEH:
Don’t be afraid. I am with you . . . Everyone who hates you will be terribly disgraced; those who attack will vanish into thin air (Isa. 41.10–11 CEV ).

JESUS:
Do not be afraid . . . For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you . . . (Acts 18.10)

I love you

YAHWEH:
‘I have loved you,’ says the LORD. (Mal. 1.2)

JESUS:
“I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.” (John 15.9 NLT)  

YAHWEH:
‘For I am the LORD your God . . . Lead out those who have eyes but are blind . . . You are my witnesses,’ declares the LORD, ‘and my servant whom I have chosen’ (Isa. 43.3,8,10)

JESUS:
The Lord said, ‘I am Jesus . . . I have chosen you to be my servant and my witness – you will tell people the things that you have seen . . . I am sending you to them to open their eyes’ (Acts 26.15–18 NCV)

I am with you as you bear witness to me

YAHWEH:
I am with you . . . Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth – everyone who is called by my name . . . you are my witnesses. (Isa. 43.5–7,10)

JESUS:
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit . . . And surely I am with you always. (Matt. 28.19–20)

YAHWEH:
Go to the people I send you to . . . Do not be afraid . . . I am giving you the words you must speak. (Jer. 1.7–9  GNB)

JESUS:
I am sending you out like sheep among wolves . . . do not worry . . . At that time you will be given what to say. (Matt. 10.16,19)

YAHWEH:
Come to me and listen to my words. (Isa. 55.3  REB).

My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest . (Exod. 33.14)

. . . ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. (Jer. 6.16)

JESUS:
Come to me . . . and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you . . . and you will find rest for your souls. (Matt. 11.28–29)

YAHWEH:
Come, all you who are thirsty. (Isa. 55.1)

. . . they have forsaken me, the spring of living water. (Jer. 2.13)

JESUS:
‘Come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ (John 7.37)

YAHWEH:
. . . no harm will overtake you . . . you will trample the great lion and the serpent . . . ‘I will . . .  show him my salvation.’ (Ps. 91. 10,13,16)

Whoever rejects you rejects me

JESUS:
‘I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you . . . rejoice that your names are written in heaven.’ (Luke 10.19–20)

YAHWEH:
. . . it is not you that they have rejected, but they have rejected me. (2 Sam. 8.7)

JESUS:
Whoever rejects you rejects me. (Luke 10.16)

YAHWEH:
‘I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God . . . showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.’ (Exod. 20.5–6)

JESUS:
‘If you love me, you will keep my commandments.’ (John 14.15  RSV)

I dwell in your midst

YAHWEH:
"The LORD, your God, is in your midst,
    a warrior who gives victory." (Zeph. 3.17 RSV)   

JESUS:
"For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them." (Matt. 18.20 RSV)

YAHWEH:
If . . . you make the Most High your dwelling . . . He will call on me, and I will answer him. (Ps. 91.9,14)

JESUS:
‘If you dwell in me, and my words dwell in you, ask whatever you want, and you shall have it..’ (John 15.7 REB)
